Spirit T-Shirts for Sale at Fun Fair! A limited number of Fern Spirit T-Shirt’s will be available for sale at the Fern Fun Fair! Buy and wear your Spirit T-shirt at this fun event. Show your school spirit and your community pride while also supporting a fantastic student lead fundraising initiative. Grade 8 students have the opportunity to purchase a Limited Edition -shirt specifically designed to commemorate the 2010 graduating class! Fern Grad T’s and Spirit T’s were designed for Fern by Christopher Ciric, local artist, Fern alumni and son of our wonderful school secretary Vera Ciric! Grads will be invited to use fabric markers to personalize their t-shirts with signatures from their classmates. Proceeds from the sale of Grad t-shirts will be applied to help offset costs related to the Grad Reception, Dinner & Dance. Younger siblings, parents and all Fern supporters can purchase an equally fabulous Fern Spirit T-Shirt. All T-shirts are $15 for youth sizes and $20 for adult sizes

We at Fern PS have many things on this week, and one is the staff appreciation lunch! Due to the busy nature of the month of June it has been necessary to schedule it for this Thursday at 11.40 in the staff room . We realize this means alot of cooking for some of you! We have drinks coming but need main courses (simple but yummy) and salads and desserts. Please let Vange know your dish ahead of time and bring it in the morning (if cold) or at lunchtime. Bread rolls, butter and margarine are also needed. Contact Evangeline.Adams@hotmail.com or you can drop off at Joanne Somers' house at 126 Wright Ave ahead of time. This lunch is a great way to show the staff at Fern how much we do appreciate all they do for our children. We also need a couple of volunteers to help set up and clean up ( lots of yummy leftovers if you are lucky!)

Dear Parents, Staff and Students Fern Avenue P.S. It is with mixed feelings that we will say goodbye to Principal Craig Tsuji at the end of June upon his transfer to Ryerson PS. Mr. Tsuji has been an invaluable force at Fern PS for the last four years. His dedication and relentless advocating for his students, staff and programs have been noted and greatly appreciated at the school level as well as at the Family of Schools level. His constant quest to improve the physical environment of the Fern building has brought significant improvement to the facility. We thank him and wish him well at Ryerson P.S next year. On May 26, 2010, the Toronto District School Board approved the transfer of Principal Alexander Moy to Fern PS for next year. Mr. Moy is an experienced principal who has worked at Wellesworth P.S for the past three years. His commitment to the improvement of student success and teaching practice in both Literacy and Numeracy will be extremely valuable at the school level as w

Athletics 2010 Track and field Dates and Locations · Conference meet: Friday May 28th at Centennial Park · Conference Championships: Monday June 7th at Centennial Park · City Championships: Wednesday June 16th at Birchmount track Departure : 8:45 a.m. You should meet in the auditorium 15 minutes prior to departure time. Some athletes will have to get to the track and field event earlier. (A schedule of events is provided and arrangements will be made with athletes, parents and coaches so that students are on time for their events) Arrival: The first bus will be back before the end of the school day with the primary students and a staff member and coach. Dear Kindergarten Families, You are cordially invited to attend our Kindergarten French Immersion and English Orientation which will take place in rooms 109 and 110 on Tuesday, June 1st between 4:30 and 5:00 p.m.. You and your children will have an opportunity to visit the Kindergarten classrooms and meet the Principal and the Kindergarten teachers. The children will assemble in room 110 and they will be given a tour of the different activity centres. At this time, we will also introduce classroom expectations. Following, the tour and introduction, the children will engage in some singing activities and listen to a story. During this time, the parents/guardians will meet in room 109 with the principal, Mr. Tsuji and a parent council executive for an informal question and answer period. Parents will also be asked to complete a brief questionnaire. We look forward to meeting all of our new Kindergarten families and we welcome you to our Fern community.

FERN STAFF APPRECIATION LUNCHEON The Staff Appreciation Luncheon will be held on Thursday, June 3 beginning at 11:40am. All parents able to contribute are asked to bring your food items to the staff room between 8:45 and 11:00 a.m. on the day of the luncheon. Please label your dishes and utensils and pick them up by 3:30 the same day.
