Eid Al Fitr Food Drive for Parkdale Community Food Bank!

Image
Hello Fern Families:  On Behalf of School Council Equity Committee Around the world, Muslims observe Ramadan by fasting from sun up until sun down as one way to gain compassion for those who are less fortunate. Every evening, families invite friends and neighbours to join in a meal and feed those who have nothing to eat. Eid Al-Fitr marks the end of Ramadan and is a time of celebration when communities come together to share food and sweets with people from all walks of life. Please join us in Donating to the Parkdale Food Bank by dropping off any non-perishable items outside the  school office by Friday, April 5th , 2024 . Thank you for your generosity, kindness and support!

Dance-a-Thon Update and Thank You

Image
We want to extend a huge thank you to everyone who helped make this year's Dance-A-Thon a massive success - we had so much fun!  The donations have been tallied, and together we raised  over $12,000 !!!!!!  This is incredible, and will go a very long way in supporting our students and our school. Thank you to all the donors for their generosity. Wow.  The winners of the pizza challenge are Mme. Tse, Mme. Oda and Ms. Spinel's classes. Congrats!  Huge thanks also goes out to the school staff, admin & teachers who let us take over the auditorium and helped us get through the event without a hitch!  To our amazing parent and senior student volunteers - we couldn't have done this without your help - thank you so much!  Dance floor vibes were excellent all day, but a special shoutout goes to the kids who memorized every word of I Want It That Way ...absolute legends.  See you next year!

Congrats Grade 8 Girls Volleyball!

Congratulations to Fern's grade 8 girls volleyball team for an amazing season this year! Our team players committed to three months of practices with an energy and skill progression that was contagious. By the time we played our first tournament, our team had become really skilled with an amazing set-up and return volleyball game. We had a string of 12 consecutive wins in exhibitions and TDSB tournaments and playoffs games. Our team played at a very high level of volleyball throughout and was well prepared for the south Toronto final against Deer Park. The game went to a third set that was closely contested with many lead changes. The ending was exciting but did not fall in our favour, with a 3 point loss margin. Deer Park, a very good team, went on to win the TDSB Toronto city championship. It is bittersweet knowing that Fern team came that close to winning the City championship, however we feel very proud for our season and bringing back to Fern Avenue the south city finalist

Congrats Junior House League Dodgeball Superheroes!

Image
If you happened to hear a lot of talk about superheroes in the past two months it was quickly brought to your attention that it had to do with the superhero teams battling it out in one of the many dodgeball games at the school’s gym. The dodgeball house league has been a huge annual sporting event at Fern Avenue public school with over 90 of our junior students playing this year. It was a great extracurricular for our students to exercise, practice their skills of throwing, catching, and dodging, and most importantly to have fun and socialize with friends and other students at school! Raising the gold cup with teammates in a commemorative picture was the prize in the final game between the superheroes teams. And yet, this was as big of a prize as it gets for our heroes in the final dodgeball game played between the Avengers and Titans teams. The game itself was one of the most memorable ones ever as the lead changed many times and a tiebreaker was needed to finally have the Avengers n
