New Eco Friendly Fridge Thanks to Fern’s Student EcoTeam, the Ontario EcoSchools has given the kitchen a brand new fridge! The new fridge is eco friendly and uses less energy; it also has loads of space, which we need. Fern is now switching from frozen meats to local fresh meats for our school lunch program, it’s locally raised and is antibiotic free. Ecoschools awarded us this great prize because of our wonderful recycling and composting programs. In addition to our new fridge we also use less energy due to our “Lights off Tuesday” from 11-1:00. To The Fern Ave Jr. Sr. PS EcoTeam: Congratulations on achieving PLATINUM certification on your recent EcoSchools audit. The KICK-OFF DATE for your school is October 26, 2010. Please mark this date on your calendars now. You will receive a follow-up e-mail in September detailing the time and location of your kick-off session. In addition, all of the 2010 Platinum schools are invited to a special PLATINUM CELEBRATION that will be held on Tuesday, September 28, 2010 at the Brickworks from 4:00pm. to 6:00pm. Can you volunteer for a few hours during one week this summer? Volunteers are needed to weed and water the Fern School Gardens over the summer.
