Hello all! Our One and Done campaign in December ran into a couple of snags. The TDSB took much longer than anticipated to open the fund and then the December Covid Wave knocked a lot of families off their feet, figuratively and literally.  A few folks asked us to reopen the fund, so here we are with Part Deux. We've sent home a note in bags (if your child did not get it yesterday, they will get it today), but in case you missed it, the details are below.  If you search for Fern Ave Junior and Senior Public School in the donations module, you will have the choice to donate to the One and Done Fund. The TDSB is letting us keep the fund open until June 30, 2022 .  Thanks everyone!

On behalf of the Fern Parent Equity Committee and Fern School Council:  Save the date: May 17th  Join us for a two-workshop series co-sponsored by the Howard PS and Fern Avenue Public School Equity and Inclusion Committees. Through these workshops we will discuss ways that we can work together to address and challenge anti-Black Racism and support our students in and out of the classroom. We will also focus on how we can build a network of solidarity to show up and fight anti-Black racism in our larger community.  Students, parents, community members and staff will be invited to participate in these interactive zoom sessions. The first workshop will be held on May 17, 2022 at 6pm facilitated by LeRoi Newbold, from Freedom School Toronto.  Freedom School Toronto is a youth and parent driven initiative that intervenes to fight against anti-Black racism in the school system and to creative educational alternatives for Black children. The Grad Committee is collecting donations of beer, wine, gift cards until April 24 .  This is a fun way to raise money for the Class of 2022, and leave a nest egg for the Class of 2023. You might think grad for your kid is a looooong way off, but this will be your child someday soon. So help pay it forward now!  You can drop your donations at the Office or at one of the addresses listed in the attached flier.  Watch for raffle tickets for the excellent gift baskets, coming soon!  Thank you on behalf of the Grad Committee

The International Day of Pink is a worldwide anti-bullying and anti-homophobia event held annually during the second week of April.  On Wednesday,  April 13 , the Toronto District School Board will once again honour International Day of Pink in support of creating a more inclusive and diverse world by encouraging young people to challenge social norms, ask more of their educators and stand up against bullying towards their 2SLGBTQIA+ peers.  We are all encouraged to wear pink in celebration of this important day and the Board’s work to create and maintain safe and inclusive spaces in which to learn and work.

The Grad Committee has come up with a fun and contact-less way to raise some cash for this year's grad celebrations, and to help kick start next year's fund.  Please consider donating a bottle of wine or beer or a specialty food item to the gift baskets, and keep your eyes open for details about where to buy a raffle ticket!  Details about drop off in this link .
