We have not been able to bring in facilitators for STEM or Arts since 2020, but now that has changed. Please consider donating to the STEM and Arts Fund on School Cash Online.  Click here and see above for the poster of the handout in your child's bag for more details.

This year 45% of Canadians are concerned they might not have enough money to buy holiday gifts.  We think all kids deserve a gift this holiday, so Fern is having a Toy drive from December 19th to the 21st . Only new but not wrapped toys for all ages.  Please put all donations in the box beside the office.  We appreciate your support. Posters created by our talented Fern students!

We are pleased to announce that all our FDK classes will be hosting a Holiday Celebration Concert on Thursday, Dec. 15th from 2:30 pm to 3:30 pm in our auditorium.  Please refer to your child's classroom teacher if you have any questions.  We look forward to welcoming you to celebrate this joyous occasion!

Socks 4 Souls  We are asking all who are able, to please donate new and unused socks! You might wonder... why socks? Socks are one of the most needed, but least donated articles of clothing. A regular supply of new socks helps to prevent foot-related diseases and ensures that someone experiencing homelessness can walk to shelters, job interviews, and get help they need.  Thank You in advance for your help with this initiative!

Thank you to our Fern Student Parliament for organizing a Bake Sale this  Wednesday,  December 14th from 12:15 to 12:45 pm . Weather permitting it will be outside near Exit #5. If weather does not permit this outdoors it will be set up in the auditorium.  All items will be $2.00 . All proceeds will go to the Grade 8 Graduation.

Despite having little practice, the Junior Girls Basketball team played really well at their tournament on Wednesday!  Our first game was rocky - as this was the first time playing as a team, we had to really get to know each other as players and how to work together. During our next games there was a noticed improvement. The referee was a great encouragement to the girls and made sure he was helping them learn as well as play! We're going to continue practices until the Winter Holiday because we have much to learn and we can apply everything we learn to the team for next season. Tommy (Kaida's Grandpa) has volunteered to coach along with M. Ruttan! We're really glad to have them both on board!

Congratulations to the Fern Junior Boys Volleyball team! The boys challenged some of their opponents and looked good out there playing their best. In the end, it was a good fun day.  We plan to continue practices into next year.  Coach Sidler  Coach Lewies

Senior Girls Basketball   The Gr.7&8 Girls Basketball team have been practicing on Monday and Wednesday mornings for the last 5 weeks, supported by our fabulous parent coach, Adrian Smith.  The team played terrifically in their tournament last Wednesday against 3 other teams. They are now moving forward to the quarter finals against Winchester this Wednesday morning .  Wish us luck!  Mme Kertesz  Senior Boys Volleyball   Our volleyball team had a great tournament last week at King Edward Public school. We played competitive volleyball against Winona, Essex and King Edward and although these schools had many club players in volleyball we kept all games really close in score with exciting finishes.  Our students have greatly improved their individual and team skills throughout our practices and house league and showed an enthusiastic school spirit at our games. Our team has very quickly transitioned from playing the ball over the net to setting and hitting the ball.   Most important

We are pleased to announce that our Winter Concert for grades 1-6 will be at Parkdale Collegiate in person this year and starts at 6pm on December 8th .  We kindly ask that all students performing arrive by 5:30 pm in the auditorium.  The concert rehearsal is on December 7th from 1-3:30 pm at PCI. Please reach out to your classroom teachers if you have any questions.  We look forward to welcoming you to celebrate this joyous season!

Tryouts for the Fern Co-ed Grade 7/8 hockey team will be on Monday, December 5th from 2-3pm at McCormick Arena (Brock Ave.).  There will be a second tryout at the same time, on Monday, December 12th.   If your child is interested in trying out they should have received a permission form to be filled out and returned to the school as soon as possible.  All students need to arrange their own transportation to McCormick Arena. Parents are encouraged to carpool where possible to help interested students. Arrival time is ideally from 1:30-1:45 to allow time to get dressed to be on the ice for 2:00.  If you have any questions, you can contact christopher.enticknap@tdsb.on.ca
