Join our NEW mailing list

Last year, the federal government enacted Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL) which prohibits the sending of commercial e-mail to people who have not consented to receive it. Unfortunately, their definition of “commercial” is broad enough so that it could be interpreted to include any messages from the school that promote, advertise or offer for sale anything including: school pictures, yearbooks, uniforms, food programs, event tickets or entry fees, fundraising events or items, or similar events or offers to sell goods and services. Last year we continued using our old mailing list, but excluded such messages from our regular e-mail newsletters. This year, we have decided to build a new, compliant mailing list from scratch, and the TDSB has determined that this requires a signed E-mail Consent Form from every individual who wishes to receive e-mail from the school. These forms were sent home today with your children, but you can also download a copy from  here . If you...

Changes to our mailing list

Over the past few weeks we have slowly been moving over to a new provider to deliver our weekly e-mail blasts. Older subscribers signed on with a provider called iContact; but as of today, new subscribers will sign up with MailChimp. And, as part of this process, we have imported all our current subscribers to their system. If you signed up for text-only e-mail, you’ll probably need to change your preferences. To do so, click the Update Subscription Preferences at the bottom of the next e-mail you receive from us. Also, there is a small chance that people who recently signed onto our mailing list may have been fallen through the cracks during the transition. So, if you do not receive an e-mail from us this weekend, click here to rejoin the list; or send us a message at  fernnoticeboard@gmail.com .

A new look for a new year!

In preparation for the new school year, this weekend we’ve given the old Fern notice board a long overdue facelift. If you’re still seeing the same old look, try refreshing—or even restarting—your browser. If, however, you encounter any persistent problems, please let me know, together with a description of the operating system and browser you’re using. Roy Schulze Communications Committee

The minutes of our School Council meetings, dating back to 2009, have all been moved to Google Drive. Click here to access the folder. You can always find the minutes from our most recent meeting at the bottom of the list. The minutes from September’s meeting have been revised with some minor corrections.
