Parents/Guardians of Children in Junior Kindergarten, You have a choice to make about French programming for your child. Senior Kindergarten is the ONLY time your child can begin the Early Immersion Program. Applications to the Early French Immersion program are made the year your child is in Junior Kindergarten for entry in September of Senior Kindergarten. It is an entirely online process. All communication will be sent via the email address you provide. Please check this email regularly. Please visit the application site www.tdsb.on.ca/pars You will need your child's date of birth and OEN. The OEN is a 9-digit number found on any report card from the TDSB or please refer to the application form sent home with your child. We hope that the first weeks of school have been successful for your child(ren) and they are getting more comfortable with their fellow students and teachers of the school each passing day. Please mark this Thursday, September 27 on your calendars to attend our Curriculum Night and School Council Welcome Back BBQ. The Welcome Back BBQ will kick off at 5:30pm. Please join us outside the school where, for a nominal charge, we will be offering a simple meal of hot dogs or veggie dogs with a drink and a fruit. We are hoping that those of you with a sweet tooth can contribute something to our potluck dessert table for all to enjoy. There will be a table ready for your treats to be donated starting at 4:30 pm. Curriculum Night will start at 6:30 pm in your child’s classroom. The first of five parent and community member consultations took place on May 1st at Danforth CI. It was well attended and the group provided great information for the review. Dear Parents/Guardians, In celebration of la semaine de la Francophonie, please join us on Thursday March 22nd for Fern's second "5 à 7" , a two-hour video dance party! This is a free event and opportunity for the whole family to enjoy an evening of French-language music and dancing with the Fern community. Dear Parents/Guardians, Grade 7 Extended French programs are intensive French programs developed for students who do not speak French at home. They are designed to provide more experience in the French language than offered in the Core French program but less than total immersion. The Extended program includes French and additional subjects taught in the French language. Students enrolling in the Extended French program are expected to have successfully completed the Grade 6 Core French program. After Grade 8, students continue the Extended French program at designated secondary schools. Students who successful complete the secondary program will receive a Certificate of Bilingual Studies in Extended French. Dear Parents/Guardians, Unfortunately, Toronto Public Health could not complete all classes during the immunization clinic held on November 13th. The “Francofête ” is underway from March 18  to the 22 at Fern .   La francofête  is celebrating it’s 17 th  year.    This festival began in Québec, in order to celebrate francophone communities and culture.    It is linked to “ La journée  Internationale  de la francophonie ” which is celebrated by many francophone countries on March 20 th  of every year.    Many events, celebrations, contests and activities occur in various communities to celebrate the willingness, the pride and the joy of living with the French language.    This week once  again, the Fern French Team of teachers will be hosting activities in their classrooms.  Larger division events such as the French spelling Bee are also planned. A reminder that the opportunity to apply for Early French Immersion (starting in Senior Kindergarten) for next year runs from January 7 through January 31. Refer to the TDSB PARS website for more information.

There is an Extended French program at Fern that begins in Grade Four. Students spend half their subjects speaking French and half speaking English. Click here for more information or come to the school for an information night on November 22 at 7:00 PM in the staff room. There will be posted signs for directions. The application deadline for the Extended French program is December 12, 2012 .

Applications are now being received on-line at www.tdsb.on.ca/pars   for Grade 4 Extended French programs around the TDSB. Packages have been sent to all schools, and then on through to the grade 3 students/ families.  The information has been distributed to all Grade 3 students in English program at Fern. Please note: The deadline for applications is 15 December 2011.   This is not a process that is controlled by the school.  The deadline is non- negotiable.  

This is just a reminder that on-line applications for extended french (the entry point is grade 4) close on December 15, 2011. Please refer to the TDSB website for further information.
