Return to In-Person Learning February 16th

Please see below important information/updates for the return to in-person learning:

Daily Screening - New TPH Screening Tool for Students:
Students must continue to be screened daily for any symptoms of COVID-19 and also follow the circumstances in which they should stay home. TPH has revised its screening tool for students, effective immediately. The update is that everyone in a household must now complete the updated COVID-19 screening daily. Please ensure your child arrives to school with a completed TDSB Student Health Pass or TDSB Health App. We will have extra copies available through your classroom teachers or in the main office.

Get Tested:
If anyone in your household has one or more new or worsening symptoms of COVID-19, they should get tested as soon as possible. Everyone in the house will need to stay home if someone in the home is sick with a COVID-19 symptom.

Pack Extra Masks:
Students are required to wear a mask properly at all times except when having a mask break or eating lunch. Pack extra masks in case your child needs to change it.

Mask Breaks:
When taking mask breaks outdoors or to eat lunch/snacks, it is important physical distancing is maintained. Teachers / staff will be leading students through a more structured mask break moving forward. During recess, students will keep their masks on as physical distancing cannot be maintained/closely monitored when they are playing together (and having fun!) in their recess zones and when lining up for re-entry.

Follow Prevention Measures:
Students should wash or sanitize their hands frequently, stay at least six feet / two metres from others as much as possible, wear a well-fitting mask, and stay home when sick.

Lunch: Grade 1-8:
Lunch has been deemed a higher risk time due to students removing their masks to eat. We will continue to monitor and adjust as necessary. We will spread out the students more during lunch if space allows. When students are eating and without a mask, we are asking them to not talk, but rather focus on eating their lunch. Once they are finished eating, they will put their masks back on and engage in quiet activity and can chat with their friends (as previously done). We realize that by asking them not to talk , we will still get a little chatter but we are really trying to follow the recommendations of TPH to help minimize the spread of the virus.

Kindergarten students will also be spread out more in their classrooms and asked not to talk when their masks are off, they have the direct assistance of their ECE for part of the lunch hour and a dedicated lunchroom supervisor for each class. Kindergarten students will continue to have an opportunity to go outside over the lunch break.

Stay-at-home except to attend school or work - do not congregate in the school yard before or after school:
Students can attend school each day, but should not gather with others, even those in their cohort. Continue to support stay-at-home measures to keep our school as safe as possible. Stay at home except to attend school, exercise outdoors or for healthcare appointments. Limit contact outside of school to only the people you live with.

Returning Technology borrowed from Fern PS:
For those who received chrome-books to borrow during the course of remote learning (January/February), please return them to the main office so we can sanitize the devices and get them back into the classrooms for student use.

We recognize that this continues to be a challenging year for our students and families, but I want to thank you for your ongoing patience, understanding and support as we adjust to the current requirements.

Wishing you and your family a safe and restful Family Day weekend!
Yours in partnership,
R. Sardella
Principal/Directrice
