***URGENT help required for the Staff Appreciation Breakfast on June 5th.***

JUNE 5 -- STAFF APPRECIATION BREAKFAST -- URGENT -- PLEASE SIGN UP NOW!! WE ESPECIALLY NEED VOLUNTEERS!   We need food contributions and helpers to make this breakfast buffet for our whole staff sing. Your granny's cinnamon bun recipe?  Fabulous Fritatta?  Fruit plate? Or maybe you're a "bring the juice" kind of person, or, organize the buffet table kind of volunteer.   Click  here  for the sign-up sheet for food and volunteer roles.   We are low on volunteers -- please SEE SECOND TAB FOR volunteer sign-up. Items can be brought to the school on  Wednesday June 5th between 730am-7:45am. Two sleeps away for the best party and fundraiser of the year - Spring Fling! This year's theme? Taylor's Version. When : May 24, 7:00-11:30pm Where : St. Casimir's amazing church hall, 156 Roncesvalles Who : parents, friends, caregivers, neighbours -- no kids. Join your friends and neighbours for a great night of dancing, delicious food, tasty beverages and our great silent auction! VOLUNTEERS NEEDED We need your help to pull this off! We're looking for enthusiastic volunteers to share their time for part of the evening. We especially need help at the end of the night for cleaning up. Help Wanted: School Council Treasurer

Are you passionate about supporting your child’s education and contributing to your school community? We’re seeking a dedicated individual to join Fern School Council as Treasurer for the 2024/25 school year. As Treasurer, you’ll play a crucial role in managing our finances and ensuring transparency. Responsibilities: Process and record all financial transactions on behalf of the council. Prepare a monthly financial report and present it at each meeting. Work with council to review and approve requests for funding. Qualifications: Willingness to be responsible for school council finances. Strong organizational and communication skills. Do you ever wonder where all of the money goes that Fern School Council raises from our various events?  Here are some of the things we spent money on this school year: ·           $2,000 to each division (Kindergarten, Primary, Junior, Senior), for a total of $8,000, to support learning objectives: o     Kindergarten division bought French books, STEM materials (pipe builders, tabletop light panel, measuring pipettes), outdoor equipment (buckets, shovels, sieves) o     Primary division brought in a play (Finding Home: A Salmon Journey up the Humber River) o     Junior division bought STEM materials (pulleys, scales, gears, magnets) o     Senior division bought French books and registration for all Grade 7s and 8s to participate in the  Gauss Math Contest ·           $3,700 to bring  Mad Science  into every Kindergarten and Primary classroom ·           $2,600 to bring three performances into the school o     The Money Tree for Grades 1-5 o     Haida Stories for Grades 4-6 o     Outsid

Eco Committee Updates

White Elephant Sale – Thank You! The White Elephant Sale was a rousing success!  Roughly 200 items found a new home  raising $230  for the Turtle Protectors.   Thank you, thank you, thank you! Turtle Protectors is an Indigenous guided stewardship program that is supported by Indigenous Elders and community members, the  Indigenous Land Stewardship Circle  and  Msit No’kmaq ." (from their website) We thank the community for their generosity and support.   From the Eco-Club team 🌱  It’s Growing Season!  🌸🌻🌷 Planning and development of the planters and green spaces around the school is well under way, and will be incorporated into curriculum.  The  Eco Club  will visit our third grade classes to introduce our gardens and teach their schoolmates how to grow seeds into seedlings, which will then be planted in the planters and green space.   ECO COMMITTEE  Litterless Lunch  PSA  Build up your family’s collection of permanent lunch containers and support local businesses at the same
