Terry Fox Run / Walk : September 27 to October 1st

Image
Our school will proudly take part in the Terry Fox Run/Walk from Sept. 27th to Oct 1st.  While this year's event will still look different from previous years, we are excited we have developed creative ways for all staff and students to take part.  This years Terry Fox Run/Walk will take place over a school week from Monday, Sept. 27th to Friday, Oct 1st. Students will walk, jog and run with their cohort classes around our new track. Senior students may opt to run to Sorauren Park or High Park.  We hope that we can continue to show the great strength and resiliency of our Fern community with your support of one of the greatest Canadian heroes, Terry Fox. Let's all use Terry's message of hope and strength to inspire us during these challenging times.  Donations can be made directly to Terry Fox Foundation at http://www.terryfox.ca/FernAvenuePSToronto .

Orange Shirt Day : Thursday, September 30th

Image
On Thursday, Sept 30th, our staff and students are encouraged to wear an orange shirt to demonstrate our commitment to reconciliation and continuing the dialogue about residential schooling.   The slogan for Orange Shirt Day is "Every Child Matters". We look forward to observing Orange Shirt Day with our staff and students.  This annual event started in 2013 to recognize the legacy of Residential School System for First Nations, Metis and Inuit People and communities. It is a show of support and understanding of the history of the school system that continues to impact many First Nations, Metis and Inuit people today. Each class will take time on that day to reflect on and discuss the significance of the "Orange Shirt" by participating in school wide activities. Understanding and acknowledging our shared history is a vital part of working towards a better future.
