Another Story (Bookstore) is Coming to Fern!

Dear Parents/Guardians, Another Story (bookstore on Roncesvalles Ave.) is moving shop to Fern Avenue P.S. for the week of Monday February 12th - Friday, February 16th . Classes will have the opportunity to preview books for sale on Monday-Wednesday of that week. Students and parents interested in purchasing books will be able to buy books at the following times: Wednesday from 12:00 - 4:00pm. Thursday, Feb. 15th from 12:00 - 8:00 pm Friday, Feb. 16th from 8:30 - 11:30am (PA day for reporting to parents). If you are unable to come to the school to purchase books during the week of the Fern Book Fair, then you can also buy the books at Another Story and say that you are a Fern parent. 20% of your purchase will go towards our library fundraiser. In addition, the store has kindly agreed to extend this promotion to the following week. Grade 8 Montreal Trip

Dear Grade 8 parents,   Today is the deadline for Montreal sign up. At this point you should have received a package with several forms.    If your child wants to attend can you please ensure:    a) You created an account online with Brightspark     b) You signed and sent the TDSB permission form to your homeroom teacher.  c) You read and discussed the 3 strike rule with your child.  d) You contacted the school for financial help,  if needed.   e) You updated the medical form, if needed.    Your prompt response is appreciated. After the deadline has passed there is no guarantee that you will be able to sign-up. We need to know our numbers by early next week. Fernapalooza - Volunteers needed!

Hello Everyone! We are already in planning mode for the much anticipated FERNAPALOOZA [formally The Spring Fling]! We need so many volunteers to make this happen. If you want to HELP there is a place for you to get involved. Remember, this fundraiser is for our much anticipated playground - we need all the help we can get in reaching our goal of $500k. Warm your child from the inside out with a daily Hot Lunch at Fern!

When it’s cold and icy outside, sometimes it’s hard to think of Spring and those first crocuses popping up in the garden. Next month includes March Break, so why worry about finding that lunch bag after the holiday? Sign up now! Please fill out, detach and submit the order form with your payment in a sealed envelope. Better yet, sign up for the rest of the year and you won’t have to worry about packing lunches that your child may or may not eat. The secure deposit box is located outside the Ferncliff Daycare office (room 103). The deadline for your order is Thursday, February 15th to begin lunch on Thursday, March 1st . Edge Imaging Grad Photo Tips

Dear Parents/Guardians, Just another reminder : Don't forget! Our photo day is Friday February 2nd . Our photography partner, Edge Imaging, provides a wide selection of products to capture your child's true personality in this important milestone. Your child will be bringing home a flyer containing all of the photo day details. In the meantime, please visit www.edgeimaging.ca for answers to frequently asked questions. Some tips to be best prepared for Grad photos: Please have your child come to school with a white dress shirt. A black or dark tie for boys is encouraged. The photographer will have extra white dress shirts and ties available ‎for students that don't bring one. If you child will be wearing makeup, nail polish or jewelry, keeping it light and neutral ensures a traditional portrait. Thank you.

Grade 8 Graduation Photos: Friday, February 2/18

Photographers will be at Fern Avenue PS on Friday, February 2, 2018 to take the photos of our  2017-2018 Graduation Class. On this day the grade 8 students will have the opportunity to purchase a variety of photo products and a class composite. The composite is a printed keepsake featuring portraits and names of all the students int he Class of 2018! A great way to capture this moment in time. If you wish to purchase a composite please return the envelope on Friday, February 2nd and hand to the photographer with $30.00. Please enclose the exact amount, photographers cannot make change. Make cheques payable to Edge Imaging.  You can also order online by following the instructions on the order form and please use school code:  FER. TIPS for a great photo session:  Dress your best!  Have your child wear a white collared dress shirt and necktie if you wish and remember to SMILE!!!! Public Family Swim at Fern!

Zodiac Swim School is excited to offer the Fern Family community a free recreational swim at the Fern pool guarded and run by Zodiac Swim School. There are two Sunday dates: January 28 and February 25 from 1:00 -2:15 p.m. The Admittance Policy and criteria for Deep End Testing is attached . All guards are certified and trained and will welcome the guests, ask them to sign in, review the admittance policy and run deep end testing where necessary and guard the pool. Fern's Folk Dance Club

All students in grades 3-6 are invited to join the Fern Folk Dance Club! Practices will take place every Monday in the 1st floor gym/auditorium from 3:30 - 4:30pm . Should space still be available once all students have joined, we may open up the club to students in Grade 2. Students will learn 15 cultural dances from around the world. Practices will begin with a review of any previously learned dances, followed by learning a new dance. The Folk Fest Jamboree will take place on May 15 at East York Collegiate Institute from 6-8 PM. (Rain date May 17) and students will take a bus from Parkdale Public School. More details regarding logistics and transportation will follow closer to the date of the event.

Grade 7 Extended French Program for Grade 6 Students Only

Dear Parents/Guardians, Grade 7 Extended French programs are intensive French programs developed for students who do not speak French at home. They are designed to provide more experience in the French language than offered in the Core French program but less than total immersion. The Extended program includes French and additional subjects taught in the French language. Students enrolling in the Extended French program are expected to have successfully completed the Grade 6 Core French program. After Grade 8, students continue the Extended French program at designated secondary schools. Students who successful complete the secondary program will receive a Certificate of Bilingual Studies in Extended French. Grade 8 Graduation Parent Committee 2018

Dear Parent/Guardians of Grade 8 Students, It is already time to start thinking of the Grade 8 Graduation, having said that I would like to invite all interested grade 8 parents to come together and form a graduation committee. The Graduation Committee is comprised of grade 8 parents who meet as a group and carry out certain responsibilities such as, decorating, set-up, invitations, photographs, program and most importantly fundraising. Each of these specific committees meets on a regular basis to plan its portion of the Graduation celebration, with meetings occurring to keep everyone informed and involved in the decision-making. The Senior Student Council will also have the opportunity to form a Student Graduation Committee and meet with Vera Ciric to discuss fundraising opportunities and input, making their graduation an unforgettable day and evening. JK Registration at Fern Begins February 12, 2018

Registration for JK Kindergarten will take place at Fern Avenue Public School during the week of February 12 and any time after.
