Grade 8 Community Clap Out June 25th

Image
4pm FRIDAY, JUNE 25 -  Celebrate the (almost) end of school with a front porch community Clap Out!  Join your community schools in celebrating the end of the school year!  We cannot all gather to recognize our kids' achievements this year, or have kids and teachers say one last hello and goodbye, but we can show our school communities that we care. Whether you have grads or kindergartens, whether your child is young enough for a crib or old enough for their own apartment, or even if you simply have missed seeing the kids walking to and from school -- help us make some neighbourhood noise.  Please step on to your front walk, your balcony, or stand at your window at 4pm, Friday, June 25 , and clap, bang a pot, play a musical instrument for a couple of minutes to honour our kids, staff, and admin. Elementary school doesn't end until June 29, but high schools are winding up, and we thought this would be the best way to catch as many school-aged families, our friends and neighbours

Final Day of Classes and First Day of Class in September

Image
Please note that the last day of school for students is Tuesday, June 29th .  The first day of classes for the 2021-2022 school year is Thursday, September 9th, 2021 . Please note that this is different than most regular "pre-COVID" years where the first day of school was the Tuesday after Labour Day.  We will communicate with all our families via email of the first day of school routines. This will likely be in August, after we get the results of the TDSB parent selection about the upcoming school year.

Report Cards

Image
Once again, in light of the health and safety protocols due to COVID-19, all students report cards will be delivered electronically.  Elementary Term 2 report cards will be emailed starting June 24th directly to parents/guardians . As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please contact us in the office.

Virtual Graduation 2021 Update

Image
Thursday, June 24th from 5-6 pm is dedicated to our Amazing Grade 8 Graduates!  As you know, the decision was made in March that all Spring Graduations are to be virtual to align with TPH measures as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, please note that we cannot hold any events in person for this school year.  We have been working hard over the last month with staff, students and families from both in-person and Virtual school to record and prepare a virtual graduation ceremony to share with our Grade 8 graduates and their families, on June 24th, 2021 at 5pm. We have planned a creative video to honour our graduates!  Please look out for an email from your Homeroom Teachers who will be giving you details about the viewing of our graduation ceremony through their online platform.  The release of the graduation video will be June 24th from 5-6 pm. Please join us at 5pm . For families that cannot make this time, the link will be available for 24 hours after our viewin

Last School Council Meeting of the Year, Wednesday June 16

Wow it's been quite a year. We held off on our May meeting in the hopes of a Big Announcement that would have meant we had transitions to plan, etc. That didn't happen, so we will hold our last meeting of the year  Wednesday, June 16, 6:30 p.m.  via Zoom.    Put it in your calendar, and hope to see you virtually for one last meeting.

Returning Devices

Image
In preparation for next school year, families that borrowed devices from Fern PS will be asked to return them on the last week of school directly to Fern PS.  If families borrowed devices from the Board, you can still return them to Fern PS. All devices that are not returned by July 2nd at the latest will be administratively locked preventing student logins.  Any Fern students enrolled in summer school can continue to use the device for the duration of the summer program and return it in September.

Graduation 2021

Image
Families of students in grade 8, we are pleased to celebrate our grade 8 graduates virtually on June 24th , for both in-person and virtual school Fern students.  Preparation for this event has already been underway and much work, planning and thought has gone into this special event. Please note that at this point in time , we do not know what will be possible with regards to offering an outdoor graduation celebration. We are awaiting further direction from TDSB who is consulting with TPH. As soon as we have any more details we will provide an update.

Flags at Half-Mast : Remembering the Children in Residential Schools

Image
Our Fern school community stands with others in our grief and sadness at the discovery of the 215 children whose remains were uncovered in a mass unmarked grave in B.C. Our flag is flying at half-mast in honour of these children.  As educators, we know that we have work to do to teach the truth about this shameful and tragic part of Canada's past. It is only through this work that there will be reconciliation.  As you walk past our school this weekend, you will see drawings on the sidewalks and ribbons on our fence put there by staff and families as a way of reinforcing and remembering that EVERY CHILD MATTERS.  If you are looking for resources for your children, please visit this TDSB site of curated resources .
