Follow-up to rummage sale
Community. It is one of the most amazing things about living in this neighbourhood and being part of Fern Ave. Public School. There are so many folks who contributed to the success of this past weekend's rummage sale/fundraiser at the school. I would like to start out with special thank-you to Jo Somers, Crystal Rasa, Mary Tremain and Nancy Marini, who were not only a pleasure to work with, but really helped bring the event together and make it a fun day.
This year's fundraiser was truly a group effort, as well as a community event. Aside from raising over $3,000 which will go towards next year's programs, this event also allowed folks an opportunity to clean out their closets. Along the way we also helped out several charitable organizations, donated to an additional fundraiser for an orphanage overseas and made a new refugee family in the neighbourhood very happy. The parents, students, and administrators all gave an enormous amount of their time with respect to sorting, setting up, and knocking down. I was astonished by the number of people in our community who stepped forward to help with this massive undertaking. Craig, Helena and Vera were also on hand to help out, but a huge amount of thanks goes out to our caretaker Fred and his entire staff, who really gave 110% not only on the day of the event, but the days leading up to it.
The outpouring of support from the parent volunteers and the senior kids was like nothing I have ever seen in all my years helping out with events, and it was great to see so many new faces as well. A special thanks should also be extended to many of the fathers (Gino Somers, Phillip Barker, Andis Rasa) who gave too many hours to count. If I tried to list all the volunteers, I know I would be forgetting some, but all your time was appreciated. I would be remiss if I didn't not mention the time Sheila Esco put towards the rummage sale. Sheila and her own group of volunteers have been working diligently to pull the upcoming Fun Fair together; despite that, Sheila was around every day helping out with our event also.
So to all the volunteers, the administration and the families that took the time to find some treasures to donate.... Thanks.
Regards,
