Strings Programme for 2010/2011

This year there will again be two separate classes of strings players. Junior strings will be children in grade 6, who played last year either at Fern or another school. We alternate every year with the band, so for fall 2010 there will be a beginner band offered to students in grade 5. The next beginner strings class will start next September, in 2011, and will be offered to children in grade 5 next fall.

Senior strings is made up of experienced players - again, those from Fern last year, or any experienced students who are coming from other schools, are welcome to join the senior strings, made up of grade 7 and grade 8 students.

Classes will be held on DAY 2 and DAY 4 in the afternoon and we will be rehearsing in the auditorium this year. Instruments are provided by the TDSB free of charge, as is the music and rosin needed to play a string instrument. Parents will sign a contract accepting responsibility for paying for any damages to the instrument, other than any accidental problems.

The big news for this year is that although we rehearse separately, both groups are playing the same repertoire and we will perform concerts together as the Fern Avenue Symphony Orchestra! Classes will hopefully start by the end of the month, pending approval of our timetables by the music department and the TDSB.
