The New Lunch Program at Fern

Thank you so much for your support of the new lunch program as we iron out the kinks and get used to the new format. We hope you, and especially your kids, have been enjoying the caterer!

Over the last couple of months we have learned a lot about running the lunch program. Starting in the new year we are making a few changes so things run more smoothly and wanted to let you know about them.

Monthly Lunch Sign-up

Starting in January you will be able to sign up for a month of lunches in advance. You will still be able to pick and choose the meals you’re interested in.

We will also continue with weekly reminders for families who missed the first week of the month.

Deadlines

We will have to start strictly enforcing the deadlines for submitting lunch orders. Lunch orders for the following week must be submitted by the Tuesday before (except for next week—you’ve got until Thursday). We have to submit our numbers to the caterer in advance. Any extras submitted after the deadline involves at least four people communicating accurately and quickly—it’s just too hard to manage.

We hope you will sympathize that this program is being run entirely by parent volunteers (and the already hard-working Vera!) and will understand this requirement.

Lunch Survey

We are still working to improve our lunch program and are looking into various alternatives. To help us pick the right solution, we would like to hear your feedback on the current program and what you would like to see happen with the lunch program in the future. Please keep an eye open for our upcoming lunch survey.

Volunteers

We are still looking for parent volunteers to help serve lunch from 11–12:30. Even if you can only do it every other week, please let us know that you’d like to help. It’s a great way to see what’s going on during the day at the school and all our volunteers have a great time!
