Spring Fling a Big Success!
Well, the final numbers are in and the Spring Fling Auction raised $8,000.00!
It was so great to see so many folks come out to this fundraiser. A good time was had by all and most folks went home with some great merchandise. This truly was a community event..... with so many donations by local merchants and parents. I was amazed at how the entire school came together to create the baskets. This was a huge undertaking by not just the volunteers, but the teachers and administrators as well.
I would like to extend a very special thank-you to two very amazing parent volunteer - Liz and Nick. Liz Leeson has sat on the Executive of the Parent Council for a numbers of years. Liz is also an active member on the daycare council, and helps run the Sorauren Soccer Club. Despite her busy schedule, she took the time to help organize this year's event. Nick Szymanis is one of the newer parents on the scene at Fern and I was thrilled this year when he came on board as our Co-Chair. Nick was instrumental in resurrecting the Spring Fling and donated many hours in sourcing the venue and merchant donations. A big thank-you to their spouses, Wade and Oona - no doubt their support freed up many hours over a number of months to plan this event.
Thanks to all the volunteers who helped us assemble baskets (Joanne Somers, Paula Larrondo, Julie Glenn) and to Anne, Larrisa and Sue for all the deliveries. A special shout out to Jamie Cuthbert for once again doing a great job of keeping our live auction lively!
Our next event will be the ever-popular Fun Fair - so get ready for cakes, castles and candy floss! Our next Parent Council meeting will be held on Thursday, April 21, from 7 to 8:30 in the school auditorium. We will be visiting the staffing models for next year and have committee updates. It would be great to have you all out.
