A New Year - A New Council!

Thanks to so many parents who turned up for the first council meeting of the year! It is great to see so many folks getting involved in the committees and nice to see some new faces. I would like to welcome Adam Eizinas and Lori Lyn Adams who will be taking over as Ward 7 Representative and Treasurer for this school year. Liz Leason will be returning as Secretary - so a big thanks to Liz as well for her continued support of the school and the council. Unfortunately Nick Szymanis is unable to commit time to the council this year, but has assured us he will be back to help with the spring fling - so again, a big thanks to him.

The position of Chair (and Co-Chair) are still available on the Executive so if you feel this is something you may be interested in and you want make a bigger contribution to the Fern School Community then I would encourage you to look into this. We will be once again be holding elections for these positions at the next council meeting. For those of you new to the school community, the council meetings are held on the 3rd Thursday of every month in the cafeteria.

Paula Larrondo, Julie Glenn and myself have all stepped down off the council. Combined, we have served on this and various school councils for over 20 years so I think it is safe to say we have earned our retirement. I would like to extend a special thank-you to both of them for all the hard work they have done over the years on the council, the committees and for their help with numerous fundraisers. They have made my time on the council a real joy.

We are so fortunate to have so many amazing people helping out at the school like Joanne Somers and her Eco Team, Dianne Nicholson and her fun fair team, and Roy Schulze and his communications team to name a few. A special shout out to all the parents who stepped forward to ensure we could continue our hot lunch program.... the list goes on. Your contributions, both large and small, are what make the Fern School Community so great!
