Healthy Food, Healthy School, Healthy Community
Dear Fern parents,
We have been receiving positive feedback from students and parents alike praising both the delicious, nutritious meals and the convenience of not having to scramble around to pack lunches, which often come home uneaten. Our daughter “is very picky about what she will eat, but she will eat most things prepared at the school,” one parent says. Another parent adds, my son “was also getting too skinny from not eating well at lunch and coming home starving,” however now he is getting a well‐balanced meal and “he LOVES the food and says it's really yummy.”
If you haven’t done so already, you still have the opportunity to sign up for Fern’s hot lunch program. (If you have already signed up for three or more months, there is no need to do anything more. We will e‐mail you a reminder when your child’s last paid month is approaching.)
Due to the logistics of this partnership and to support a financially viable program, a full one‐ month commitment is required to confirm daily quantities and ensure cost‐effective ordering, administration and preparation. The monthly amount is $90; or $80 if you commit for three or more consecutive months with postdated cheques. Please note that once lunch orders are submitted, refunds and credit cannot be given due to sick days, field trips, etc. Orders and payment must be handed in by the 15th of the month, and we will require 30 days’ notice should you choose to discontinue the program.
Lunch orders and payments can be dropped off in a secure depository box with a mail slot installed just outside the Ferncliff Daycare office (room 103). This will allow parents to deposit orders directly into the lockbox outside of school office hours.
An order form and menu is available on the Lunch Program Page. There are also some Frequently Asked Questions on the page if you would like to learn more about the program.
We are still also looking for parents to volunteer one hour to help serve lunch (11:20‐12:20) or to be on the food committee. Your own children do not have to be ordering a hot lunch for you to be a volunteer. This is a fun and easy way to help the school and stay connected to the Fern community. Please contact Carole Angus at for more info and to sign up.
Both Ferncliff and Fern believe that this lunch program delivers many benefits and we encourage you to participate in it and support healthy and delicious eating at Fern Avenue School.
If you have any questions about the lunch program, please contact Tracy Kett at or 416-535‐0205.

Maggie’s delicious hot lunches have both participating students and their parents excited:
"The food is super, super, super!"
“My son loves it all and hasn't left anything out, even the veggies. He now likes food that I didn't even know he would eat like scalloped potatoes, spinach salad, etc.!”
“The reason we joined can be summed up in one word: Maggie. My kid has lots of allergies and Maggie has always been fantastic at adapting to his needs. In addition, he reports her food being delicious and nutritious.”
“My son loves Maggie’s cooking and the smell of the food in the morning.” “Yay to not making lunches that my son never ever eats anyway for a whole 3 months! What a treat!”
