URGENT : ELEMENTARY CROSS COUNTRY MEETS

Dear Parents and Guardians,

As you likely know, the Ontario Legislature recently passed Bill 115, the Putting Students First Act which sets out requirements that must be included in collective agreements and includes a two year wage restraint.  Now that the province has established these financial parameters, as a Board we will continue with local bargaining and work towards new collective agreements with our staff.

In response to the legislation, some individuals have decided not to volunteer for extra-curricular activities. While there are a number of schools where extra-curricular activities have not been impacted, over the last few days questions have arisen regarding the upcoming elementary cross-country meets at schools where parent volunteers may have been working with non- sanctioned run clubs.

I want to reassure you that our staff is working hard to keep the focus in our school on student learning.  Board staff and I understand that the upcoming cross-country meets are important events for our students, as some of them have been training hard and are looking forward to competing this Fall.
We are committed to supporting the meets and having them take place as scheduled.   Therefore, central staff will be in attendance at the upcoming meets and will ensure that all participating TDSB students are supervised.  Students from our school may may now participate on Tuesday October 2, 2012  at Centennial Park, Etobicoke, with the first race starting at 9:45am.  This is the only start information I have.

Students that are part of school cross-country running teams who have been registered by the deadlines are eligible to qualify for the conference finals and city finals.   Students from Fern do not fall under this category, however, are permitted to participate in the October 2 races if they are brought to Centennial Park by their parent(s).

If you have questions, please contact me or our Superintendent of Education
, Mr, Curtis Ennis.   Thank you for your continued support of our students and staff.

Sincerely,
A. Moy
Principal
