Fern School Council Initiative—By-laws

Dear Parents/Guardians and other Members of the Fern Community,

The Fern School Council is looking for your input regarding new draft by-laws that will govern the communication and behaviour of members and participants in Fern School Council (FSC) activities.

In accordance with the Ministry of Education’s regulation and guidelines, FSC has prepared draft by-laws to:

(1) establish a code of conduct;

(2) formalize standards expected in communications either to members of FSC or sent on behalf of FSC;

(3) establish a conflict resolution process; and

(4) identify and address conflicts of interests.

The bylaws are in addition to the purpose, roles and responsibilities of FSC that are mandated by Ontario Regulation 612/00.

Click here for the draft bylaws concerning Conflict Resolution and Conflict of Interest.

Click here to reference Ontario Regulation 612/00 which governs school councils and parent involvement committees. A printed copy is also available in the Main Office.

Please contact Pamela Wilson at wilson.pamela@sympatico.ca with any comments and/or suggestions for edits to the proposed bylaws on or prior to February 21. Together with a summary of comments and suggested edits received, these two draft bylaws will be presented for final review and approval at the February 28 Fern School Council meeting.

This is an ongoing project, and future bylaws will address election procedures and vacancies. If you are interested in participating in this process or any FSC initiatives, please contact me by e-mail.

Thank you,

Pamela Wilson
Chair, Fern School Council
