Community Information
Please find below a message from Councillor Gord Perks on the 383 Sorauren Development Application for your information.
"On Tuesday, September 9th, a Request for Direction Report-383 Sorauren Avenue, prepared by City Planing staff, will be introduced at Toronto and East York Community Council.
This report will recommend that City Council direct the City Solicitor to oppose the appeal of the 383 Sorauren Avenue Development application at the Ontario Municipal Board (OMB) hearing and also to work with the owner to enter into a settlement should the opportunity arise.
I will be supporting the Direction Report at TEYCC.
Over the last year and a half, two community meetings have been held about the application for 383 Sorauren Avenue. At both meetings, local residents shared concerns with the proposed development.
At the request of the community, a working group was formed that included local residents, representatives of the Roncesvalles Macdonell Resident Association and the Robert Watson Lofts and City Planners to work with the developers towards an altered application that would reflect the concerns raised by the community.
The Working Group was not successful. Concerns raised by the community remain, specifically:
1. distance between 383 Sorauren proposed building and Robert Watson Lofts
2. weight of building on Sorauren (imposing on the street)
., shadow and skylight concerns 4, Visitor Parking - needs more spots 5. height of building
Please review the staff report at http://app.toronto.ca/tmmis/viewAgendaItemHistory.do?item=2013.TE26.16 and contact my office if you require any further information.
In the meantime, the City Solicitor and City Planner attended a prehearing at the OMB this week representing the City's interest in refusing this application. Community members present registered as participants representing the Roncesvalles Macdonell Resident Association and the Robert Watson Lofts, as well as 2 individuals who live directly across the street from the development site.
The hearing has been scheduled for January 6, 2014. My office will communicate any information received from the OMB or from the community members acting as participants.
