Arts Collective Update

Get ready for our Fern Fun Flicks!


The Arts Collective will be hosting a movie night fundraiser in the auditorium on Thursday December 5th. There will be snack food, drinks and of course popcorn! Our feature film will be Arthur Christmas to get us in the mood for the holidays! We hope you can join us.
Tickets will go on sale November 25th.





The Metis Fiddle Stomp The Floor Workshop
Classes have been working hard over the last few weeks to put together a performance based on Metis musical culture.
Next Friday all 4 classes will preform along with the Metis Fiddle Quartet for the whole school. Everyone is welcome to attend.




The Knitting Club - WE NEED YOUR YARN!
Please drop off any yarn or knitting supplies in the office. The club is open to senior students and parents at lunch on Fridays in room 308 starting at 11:30….. The program will soon be open to junior students wishing to learn and be part of a mentorship program with our senior students. The club will be knitting much needed baby blankets for the Redwood Shelter http://www.theredwood.com



Royal Conservatory's Learning Through The Arts (LTTA) Music Championship Program will be coming to Fern!
We have made a 2 year commitment to bringing this amazing music and dance based program to Fern. The Music Championship program uses LTTA trained Artist Educators to harness the power of music and dance to teach math, science and language in the classroom. Not only does this program offer teacher professional development but it will also include performances by Royal Conservatory musicians and dancers, encouraging student engagement, performance etiquette and the the enjoyment of live performances.

Bernice Hune Asian Heritage OAC workshop will start Monday November 18th
Ms. Nitsis, Ms. Gaudet, Ms. Whalen and Ms. Hall’s classes will be participating. Please look for their beautiful bird and kite art in the foyer this year.

Peter Ryan "Into Orbit" dance and movement workshop will start November 25th
Mr. Dibbon-Smith, Mr. Gelinas, Mr. Archdekin and Ms. Venn's classes will be participating.

Eva Ormut Stop Motion Workshop starts December 9-13th
Cherie Carter and Sonia Mably's classes will be participating in a Stop Animation workshop during the week of December 9th -13th. It is an exciting and incredibly creative multimedia art project that integrates story development, storyboarding, drama, drawing, sculpting, painting, digital photography and audio capture, resulting in a stop-motion animated film created by the students in DVD format. The students are bound to come up with some amazing short films!!!!

Choir Performing at the Spring Concert

Dear Families,  We are so happy to have such a large enthusiastic choir!   Fern's wonderful students in Choir have been practicing two songs for the Spring Concert on April 18th.  They are: The Best Day of my life and My Own Superhero. Here are some notes regarding the Spring Concert:  *We will be walking to Parkdale Collegiate for a run through after morning attendance on Thursday April the 18th at 9:20 am.  (Two primary of our classes will be on a field trip and choir members in those classes will not attend the run through. ) **Volunteers are very welcome to walk with the Choir to and from Parkdale Collegiate. (Meet at 9 am at Fern)   *We aim to be back by lunch, however sometimes runthroughs take a while. Therefore please pack snacks and water with your child for the day. We will eat lunch when we return.     * The evening of The concert, students are to be at Parkdale Collegiate for 6:00 PM . * Students in the concert are encouraged to wear all black.  *Caregiver/ Parent pick

Fern Running Club

Happy Monday Fern Falcons!  And Happy Earth Day.  We will have a running club, open to students of all ages, every Friday morning, from 8:30-9:00am, around the track.  Kindergarten students must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Children in other grades are welcome to drop in and join us, and then will be dismissed when regular yard duty begins at 9:00am.  This is a club, and not a team, there will be no tryouts, there will be no meet/competition. We will be running for ourselves and promoting movement, the joy of running, and healthy habits.  Feel free to join us. Spring Fling 2024: Taylor's Version

As we gear up for one of the neighbourhood’s most exciting and fun-filled events, we are delighted to announce the details for our school's biggest fundraiser, the Spring Fling! Get ready for a night of laughter, dancing, and community spirit.  Our 12 th  Annual  Spring Fling Fundraiser  will be held on Friday, May 24th, 2024, at St. Casimir’s, 156 Roncesvalles Avenue, beginning at 7:00 p.m. There’s something for everyone: fantastic food, a well-stocked bar, a great local DJ, some serious parent moves on the dance floor and a fabulous silent auction.
