The Arts at Fern for the 2014-15 year!

This year is shaping up to be another fantastic year for our kids at Fern. We have been booking artists for the classrooms, arranging murals and booking shows!

Our first Fern Fun Flicks movie fundraiser will be a Halloween Special on Friday Oct. 24th.

We chose HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA because it’s such a great family Halloween classic. It’s fun and not too scary!!!

Our first Artist in October, Sandra Phillips, will be working with 3 classes. Ms. Eyre’s Gr. 2s, Ms. Brennan Gr. 2/3s and Ms. Whalen’s Gr. 1/2 class. They will be working on a Balinese Halloween inspired multi-media theatre project creating shadow puppets. The students will be doing a puppetry performance in class on November 24 - parents are welcome to attend!

At the end of October, Michael McMurty, will be working with Ms. Mably/Ms. Cox's grade 5/6 and Ms. Tse/Ms. Grant's grade 6/7 classes. The Fairy Tale Project will have the students create, rehearse and preform a semi-improvised production of their own adapted from a traditional fairy tale. Michael performed a one man show for us two years ago called Cinderfella. If you were lucky enough to see it you know how lucky we are to have him sharing his skills with our students! Keep your eyes open for another show from Michael at Fern in the spring!

One of the Arts Collective goals has been to bring a one week artist workshop into EVERY class at Fern and so far, over the last four years, we have been able to do that. This is separate from the 10 teachers who signed on for the Royal Conservatories Music Championship program. Those teachers’ classes receive another two music or dance workshops. Because this is a teacher sign on program and not a class sign up we are hoping that although we were only allowed 10 classes in this program, through grade changes, all students will eventually get to experience this amazing program.

This year we will post monthly the artists we have coming in and who they will be working with along with our up-coming shows and events.
We hope to see you at our Fern Fun Flick show on the 24th and if you have any questions or ideas you would like to share please email us at :
