Attendance Boundary Review
Dear Parents/Guardians and Staff:
I am writing to provide an update regarding the decision-making process for the Attendance Boundary Review that was discussed with you this past fall. As you may recall, a public meeting was held on September 30, 2014 and an additional working meeting involving community representatives was held on October 21, 2014.
I would like to thank all of the parents/guardians and community members who dedicated their valuable time and participated in the review process. After careful consideration of all options, TDSB staff will be moving forward with their recommendations to deal with overcrowding at Garden Avenue Jr PS. Staff is proposing to change the boundaries with Parkdale Jr & Sr PS, an adjacent school with surplus capacity, to reduce the enrolment at Garden Jr PS (for 2015-16). Other minor boundary changes in the area are being recommended that will impact two other schools-Alexander Muir/Gladstone Avenue Jr & Sr PS and Fern Avenue Jr & Sr PS. the proposed approach is to gradually implement the changes without impacting any students attending the schools as of the end of the 2014-2015 school year. Therefore, grandparenting for current students and their younger siblings will be in effect.
A description and map proposed boundary changes can be found in the presentation posted on the TDSB website http://schools.tdsb.on.ca/gardenave/pdf/boundaryChangePresentation.pdf (please see slides 19-22).
TDSB staff will present a report with their recommendations to the Board's Planning and Priorities Committee on Wednesday, February 25, 2015* at 5050 Yonge Street. (committee Room A), 7:00 p.m. If you would like to share your thoughts in person or in writing with Trustees, please contact Denisse Parra at denisse.parra@tdsb.on.ca by 4:00 p.m. on Monday, February 23, 2015. For more information, please go to www.tdsb.on.ca/boardroom and click on Delegations.
The planning and Priorities Committee will present its recommendations to the Board of Trustees at a meeting on Wednesday, March 11, 2015*. At this meeting, the Board will make the final decision.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at 416-394-2044.
