Earth Week Activities April 20 to 24, 2015

Dear Parents,

Earth Day is coming up on Wednesday, April 22nd. As an Eco Team, we have planned some easy, fun, daily activities to bring to light our role in helping our environment and making a positive impact. We hope that all of you will join in and encourage your children to participate in these Earth Week activities! Mme Furley will have the list of the activities posted on the Eco bulletin board located across the office in the primary hallway. We will also have daily Eco announcements to remind teachers and students about the activities.

Monday, Apr. 20 - Friday, April 24 – Cleaning the Schoolyard and Sorauren Park. All classes have signed up for a time to clean up our school’s area in the front, the primary and junior/senior yards, Fern Avenue and Wright Avenue, or Sorauren Park. Let’s keep our school grounds clean and beautiful! We will provide the bags and gloves for each class.

Tuesday, Apr. 21st – Bike/Walk/Scooter to School Day. Please use public transit OR bike, walk or scooter to school today. If you can get to and from school without a car today, then that would be fantastic! If you must drive, please consider carpooling for today.

Wednesday, Apr. 22nd – EARTH DAY! Please take some chalk and write a message or draw a picture that represents the importance of having a clean world and what it means to you. Students can do this at recess. We will provide the chalk. Lights out for the day (if you can, have your classroom lights off all day) and reduce the amount of paper and technology used today.

Thursday, Apr. 23rd – Boomerang Lunch/Litterless Lunch Day. Please bring a litterless or boomerang lunch to school today. A boomerang lunch means you take all garbage and compost home with you. A litterless lunch means exactly that, no litter! We also encourage litterless snacks or a reduction of snacks with a lot of packaging. Teachers, please be a role model and do the same!

Friday, Apr. 24th – Dress Your Eco Best! Dress up as a tree, bird, squirrel, or whatever to show that you care about the environment! Or show your spirit by wearing earthy colours/tones, such as green, brown, beige or yellow!

Thank you all for your support. If you have any questions, please contact Mme Tse or Mme Mably.
