Earth Week at Fern

The ECO Team has planned some events for Earth Week, April 18th to April 21st.

Please join us in keeping Fern green and encouraging everyone to help out.

Tuesday, Apr. 18th – Boomerang Lunch/Litterless Lunch Day.

All students should be bringing a Boomerang lunch to school if they stay for lunch. Please bring a litterless or boomerang lunch to school today. A boomerang lunch means you take all garbage and compost home with you. A litterless lunch means exactly that, no litter! We also encourage litterless snacks or a reduction of snacks with a lot of packaging. Teachers, please be a role model and do the same! Eco Team members will be in the lunchroom and awarding prizes to students they see participating.

Wednesday, Apr. 19th-ECO Art

The Eco team will cut eco paper into squares and distribute them to classes (one per student). Given how well the student council activity went, with older grades paired with younger grades, we figured we would try this again.
Work with another class, or on your own (we leave this up to you), to decorate each square of paper with an Eco message. You can mount them on a piece of construction paper and hang them in your classrooms. If there are any classes who may need assistance to mount their pieces of art, please let us know, we will be happy to help.

Thursday, Apr. 20th–Bike/Walk/Scooter to School Day.
Please use public transit OR bike, walk or scooter to school today. If you can get to and from school without a car today, then that would be fantastic! If you must drive, please consider carpooling for today. The Eco Team will on the lookout for students and teachers who do any of the above, you may win a prize for your efforts.

Friday, Apr. 21st – EARTH DAY! Dress Your Eco Best!
Dress up as a tree, bird, squirrel, flower or whatever to show that you care about the environment! Or show your spirit by wearing earthy colours/tones, such as green, brown, beige or yellow!

Cleaning the Schoolyard and Sorauren Park.
All classes are encouraged to sign up for a time to clean up our school’s area in the front, the primary and junior/senior yards, or Sorauren Park. Let’s keep our school grounds clean and beautiful! The sign-up sheet will be placed on Vera’s desk for teachers to sign up their classes. The Eco Team will provide gloves and plastic bags.

Thank you for your support,

The Eco Team
