FIRST SCHOOL COUNCIL MEETING OF 2019, TUESDAY JANUARY 15, 6:30 P.M.
Happy New Year Fern families!
There is a lot going on at Fern these days. Construction, painting the stairwells, hiring a swim instructor... Plus we have a very full calendar of School Council events between now and June including Pub Night (date to be confirmed -- hopefully late January), our first ever Gala Dinner fundraiser event March 1, STEM Day and Night March 25 and 26, Spring Fling May 25, Fun Fair June 8, along with Fern Fun Flicks events, an Earth Day Celebration, and parent education workshops. We'd also love to get more parent engagement on issues like finding ways to get the Grade 7 and 8's more engaged with the school community, outreach to our feeder schools, Howard and Garden, and outreach from our destination high-schools, Parkdale and Humberside.
In a school this size, getting information out effectively is always a challenge. Want to know about the construction? The hiring of a swim instructor? Our Playground fundraising? What is this Gala Dinner of which you speak? Come hear about it in person at our School Council meeting. We would love to have your time and expertise for one of our committees or events, or hear your opinions on the goings-on at Fern.
The meeting runs more smoothly and effectively if we can plan in advance for questions or issues that may arise, so if you have something you'd like to see addressed, please send us a note ahead of time to get it on the agenda, or into the Principal's Update. We also need to know how much pizza to order, and how many parents will take advantage of the child care, so please RSVP at fernaveschoolcouncil@gmail.com by Monday night (January 14).
Please note that this month's meeting is on a TUESDAY. We are alternating between Tuesdays and Wednesdays in an effort to accommodate parents with children at both Fern and either Howard or Garden by avoiding their School Council meeting dates to the extent possible, as well as accommodating those parents who always say "I cannot make x day of the week." We're hoping to make these meetings as accessible to as many parents as possible.
Hope to see you on Tuesday January 15!
Best,
School Council Exec
