Track and field
Dates and Location:
South Conference meet –Monday May 15th@ Varsity Stadium
South Conference Championships– Thursday June 6th @ Birchmount Park Stadium
City Championships – Tuesday, June 13th – Birchmount Park Stadium
Departure : . Students should meet in the Fern Ave P.S. auditorium at 8:15am.
Departure time from school is at 8:30am.
Our 1500m runners and some hurdle athletes will have to leave earlier (arrangements will need to be made with parents and volunteer drivers). Please check the schedule on the next page.
We will be travelling by TTC and should be back to school before 4:00pm
If you are taking your child home after their event please provide coaches with a letter/note.
Track and field practices:
Senior team students will continue practicing their events on Tuesday and Thursday mornings (8:00-9:00am) with coach Sarantos Katsihtis
Junior team students will continue practicing their events on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons (3:45-4:45pm) with coach Robert Teuwan
Things to do bring at the track and field meet:
WATER-lots of it
HEALTHY SNACKS-fruits, veggies, sandwiches, power bars, etc.
SUNSCREEN-cover exposed skin completely prior to putting on your uniform
HAT -cannot be worn when competing
GAMES AND BOOKS-cards, travel games, books
SWEATS/WARM-UP-OUTFIT/ RUNNING SHOES
Things to do at the track meet:
Upon arrival, check in at the tables or with your age group coach.
Event tags are worn on the jersey for all events.
No one can compete without an official event tag with a competitor number unless
running only on relay team..
Students need to know where their coaches and meeting places are. Athletes are responsible for themselves and for checking in with their coach upon hearing FIRST CALL for their event. With a team of over 80 athletes, it is impossible for coaches to locate each child prior to his or her event. It is VITAL that every athlete listens for calls because events WILL NOT be delayed in an effort to locate you. Make sure you also check the schedule and know your approximate event time.
Drink plenty of fluids throughout the day!!! A little at a time.
NO SODA as this only depletes the body of fluids resulting in cramps.
Keep stands clean and pick up after yourselves before leaving.
STAY OUT OF THE SUN, RELAX, AND HAVE FUN!
THE INFIELD IS OFF LIMITS FOR ALL NON-COMPETING ATHLETES, NO EXCEPTIONS!
Meeting Places:
STADIUM STANDS- We will have a section on the stands with adult supervision.
