THURSDAY MARCH 7, 2024 -- FERN'S EPIC ANNUAL DANCE-A-THON!!


The Annual Dance-A-Thon is back and this year, the theme is: Saved By The Bell!
On Thursday, March 7th, kids are encouraged to come dressed in their 90s finest & ready to bust a move! Every student in grades JK-6 will dance for a period during the day and this year, we’re raising funds for in-school enrichment in the arts, STEM, and physical education. Everybody gets to dance, regardless of whether they raise money.
The top 3 classes that raise the most money win a pizza party!
HOW TO DONATE/RAISE MONEY
The Office CANNOT collect cash, so instead we have TWO easy ways to donate:
1. Complete the pledge form and send cash with your child on March 7. A parent volunteer will collect it and make sure your child’s class gets credit. Watch your kids backpack for the pledge form today or tomorrow.
2. Donate on School Cash Online:
The TDSB now provides tax receipts for any donation amount. Please be sure to include your child’s teacher or classroom number in the "Memo" box when you donate so we can track it for the Pizza Challenge, and please make a note on your child's pledge form.
Only donations made before or on March 7 will count towards the Pizza Challenge.
Want to volunteer?
We need parent volunteers to help collect and organize the money, chaperone kids to and from classes, hand out glow-stick bracelets, and of course, show the younger generation how to bust a move on the dance floor. What about my Grade 7 or 8?
We had some long conversations with the grade 7 and 8's and their teachers about the Big Kids' involvement in this year's danceathon. We have a very engaged group of 7's & 8's in the Leadership Council. They were pretty clear that since they run their own dances and fundraisers, as the school leaders, they would prefer to be on the organizational end of this project. It's a bittersweet part of them leaving the nest is that they'd rather help run it, than dance in it;) But, they have the opportunity to help out, and the Senior teachers have the sign-up for grade 7 & 8’s who want to volunteer at the Dance-A-Thon.

Not to worry - your child can still participate in the fundraising even if they are not attending! If your child will not be attending on March 7, and has cash donations, please reach out to fernaveschoolcouncil@gmail.com and we will organize a drop-off/pick-up for cash donations.

Fern Running Club

Happy Monday Fern Falcons!  And Happy Earth Day.  We will have a running club, open to students of all ages, every Friday morning, from 8:30-9:00am, around the track.  Kindergarten students must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Children in other grades are welcome to drop in and join us, and then will be dismissed when regular yard duty begins at 9:00am.  This is a club, and not a team, there will be no tryouts, there will be no meet/competition. Spring Fling 2024: Taylor's Version

As we gear up for one of the neighbourhood’s most exciting and fun-filled events, we are delighted to announce the details for our school's biggest fundraiser, the Spring Fling! Get ready for a night of laughter, dancing, and community spirit.  Our 12 th  Annual  Spring Fling Fundraiser  will be held on Friday, May 24th, 2024, at St. Casimir’s, 156 Roncesvalles Avenue, beginning at 7:00 p.m. There’s something for everyone: fantastic food, a well-stocked bar, a great local DJ, some serious parent moves on the dance floor and a fabulous silent auction. Choir Performing at the Spring Concert

Dear Families,  We are so happy to have such a large enthusiastic choir!   Fern's wonderful students in Choir have been practicing two songs for the Spring Concert on April 18th.  They are: The Best Day of my life and My Own Superhero. Here are some notes regarding the Spring Concert:  *We will be walking to Parkdale Collegiate for a run through after morning attendance on Thursday April the 18th at 9:20 am.  (Two primary of our classes will be on a field trip and choir members in those classes will not attend the run through. ) **Volunteers are very welcome to walk with the Choir to and from Parkdale Collegiate. (Meet at 9 am at Fern)   *We aim to be back by lunch, however sometimes runthroughs take a while. Therefore please pack snacks and water with your child for the day.
