News from the Principal's Office : Remote Class Etiquette

"There is always light, if only we're brave enough to see it. If only we're brave enough to be it."

Hello Fern Families:
It is hard to believe that we are heading into the last week of January. What a great week of teaching and learning! Thank you all for another successful week as we look forward to week 4 ahead!

THANK YOU to our Fern community for your continued work and support as we continue remote learning.
THANK YOU to our very talented students for all their great work in the remote classrooms.
THANK YOU to our dedicate Fern staff for their organization, patience and engaging teaching of our students.

Remote Class Etiquette:
  • Courtesy and Respect are key
  • Students use the designated platform to join meetings that are led by their teacher
  • Recording and/or posting any content from virtual meetings is not allowed (unless under the direction of the teacher)

Participating in Remote / Virtual meetings:
  • Know when to join your virtual meeting
  • Wait for your teacher before joining the virtual meeting
  • Always use your real name

When you are in a Virtual meeting, you should behave like you are in the classroom.
  • Sit in a well lit room if possible facing a light source
  • Please keep your video on (if possible)
  • Be fully present and focussed
  • Raise your "virtual hand" and wait to be recognized by your teacher if you have any questions or comments
  • Keep your microphone muted unless you are called on to talk
  • Use academic language in spoken and written questions and comments

Using the Chat Feature:
  • Use the chat as directed by your teacher
  • Always use academic language
  • The chat bar is not for GIF's, pictures, random words or comments

What if a student does not follow virtual class etiquette?
  • Teachers teach and review the expected virtual etiquette
  • If a student does not follow expectations, teachers give constructive feedback
  • If behaviour continues, teachers will conference with student and contact family
  • If behaviour persists without good faith effort to correct, student is removed from the online platform environment
  • Student may return to online environment after conference with admin and family
