Contingency Plan During School Closures

As previously shared, the TDSB will communicate with all families this week to confirm the final plan for the week.

If notification is received that CUPE members will return to work on Monday, November 7th, all TDSB schools will re-open to students and will resume in-person learning. If we receive information to indicate that the CUPE job action will continue, (or in the absence of any definitive indication otherwise), school buildings will remain CLOSED to all students, and we will proceed as follows:

On Monday, November 7th we will continue with asynchronous instruction and Fern PS will be closed to students.
  • Lessons and expectations will be shared via the learning platform. Learning materials for students will be adjusted and made available as required
  • Monday, November 7th will be a day to distribute technology to families and prepare for the provision of synchronous instruction
  • All teaching staff will be in-person at Fern PS on Monday, November 7th
If job action continues beyond Monday, on Tuesday, November 8th we will transition to synchronous instruction for all students.
  • Special education supports and resources will be provided to support the continuity of learning and access to specialized equipment ( i.e. SEA )
  • Virtual services and supports, through a variety of special education staff, will continue to be provided
  • School staff will ensure ongoing communication with families to monitor progress and the student needs
Devices
We recognize that some students in our community do not have access to equipment or devices to enable them to access or fully participate in teacher-led instruction in the online environment. To that end, families may request the loan of a device to support online instruction through your teacher or contact me  or Mr. Lefkos directly.

Pick up for devices will take place on Monday, November 7th between 11:30 a.m. to 4p.m. in the school office.

We will be sharing updates with regularity as information becomes available regarding school events (sports, clubs, Remembrance Day, Interviews, progress report cards,  etc.)

Thank you for your ongoing patience and understanding as we navigate through this period of job action. We remain committed to the success of the negotiation process and hope for a positive resolution for all!
