Fern’s biggest party of the year is coming up  on WEDNESDAY JUNE 26 from 5-8:30pm  in the school yard This is the big one friends!  We need a village to get this off the ground. We need helpers for everything from face paint to games, BBQ to cake competition, set-up to clean-up. We also need your treats for the bake sale, your pre-loved stuffies   and toys for prizes AND we’re bringing back Mystery Bags, too! Fun activities for kids aged 4 to 14 and a good time for adults, too.  We need your help!  -Make a Cake for the Cake-Off – Calling all aspiring bakers and cake enthusiasts! Bring your favorite cake recipes and put your frosting, decorating, and flavouring techniques to the test.   Whether you're a seasoned baker or a novice in the kitchen, this competition is open to all ages and skill levels. It's back -- the community party you've been waiting for! Yard games (musical chairs, three legged race, sack race, football toss, fishing....), BBQ, bake sale, cake decorating competition, cake auction... To parents who are baking for the Fernapalooza event: Please drop off your baked goods on Thursday, June 9th in the upper level office (where the Peer Review meetings happen).  There will be two big tables there, and drop off can be in the morning or any time throughout the day. Thank you!  

We really wanted to have some sort of celebration, but didn't want to do the big ticket, big expense rides and what not for a bunch of reasons -- TDSB approved vendors are making up for lost time, and the cost and risk were too much for this year. So we're doing an epic, old school meets new school school yard family fun night instead. BBQ! Old school yard games! DJ! Baking Competition! Silent Auction! Looking for volunteer bakers to make our baked goods table the sweet decadence of bake sales past! 2022's slightly scaled down answer to the Fun Fair -- Fernapalooza -- is coming to the Fern yard! Thursday, June 9, after school and into the evening  (exact times TBD).  Family BBQ, face painting, cake decorating competition, DJ, bouncy castle, games, raffle, bake sale.... This is all coming together on a shorter timeline than usual because of, you know, the pandemic, so we're looking for volunteers to help out with things like running games, the bake sale, clean-up, etc. Volunteers:   We will soon post a link to an official volunteer sign-up, but right now we need a few people to be in charge of games. We're thinking low tech, low cost, like bean bag toss (anyone have a toilet seat?), fishing, musical chairs... Hello! Our next (and final) School Council meeting will be on Wednesday, June 6th from 6:30 - 8:30 in the Auditorium. There will be two key discussion items in this meeting: 1. Special Guests from the TDSB. Jane Phillips-Long (our Superintendent), Robin Pilkey (our Trustee), and TDSB Facilities Administrators will be joining us to address a number of concerns raised over the past year. Hello Wonderful Fern Parents! Just a friendly reminder that Monday, May 14 is the last day to donate items or make a monetary donation to your child’s classroom basket for FERNAPALOOZA. What is a classroom basket you say? This is a collection of items from each class which will be placed into a fancy looking bundle and will be auctioned off at FERNAPALOOZA. Don’t have time to shop for a class basket you say? No problem! If you make a monetary donation [suggested donation $20] we will go shopping for you! If you want to HELP there is a space for you to get involved. Remember, this fundraiser is for our much anticipated PLAYGROUND - we need all the help we can get in reaching our goal of $500,000. Please take a look at the volunteer sign up and place yourself where ever possible. Volunteers are NEEDED IMMEDIATELY for some positions - please read the description for the position you are interested in to note the start time. If you don't have the time to volunteer, no problem!
